State Championships - July 14-15, 2007

Saturday we faced the Extreme Lunatix in our first game of the 2007 Kansas State Championships. The girls were pumped up after last week's oh-so-close runner up finish in the Tiffany Springs tournament.
We started out great with bats on! The Firebirds won with at final score of 15-1, fantastic job girls...Alyvia got her 1st 'out of the park' homerun...that makes it official - she's a home run hitter. Mom and Dad wouldn't count the 2 last weekend that didn't make it over the fence.
Between games, the girls tried to stay out of the sun under the tents - as always, everyone enjoyed themselves. They enjoyed their State game experience with their friends and families. The next game was against the Topeka Red Sox and that was a tough loss to take. No real pictures of the game, sorry - baseball tournament called for my attention. The girls played hard and just had a few mistakes. Lost by 2. It happens, just shake it off and let's see what Sunday can bring!
Sunday was against the Topeka Sting. It was a back and forth nail biter all the way through. We would score 1, they would score 1....Shelby came close to hitting it over the wall and if the their was any way to 'will' the ball the other foot it needed, the parents were are blowing!!! The girls showed great heart and held the lead with the bottom of the final inning and 2 outs - we just couldn't close it out. They scored 1 run and there was a great throw to home for the tag out.....just a little too late - time expired and the Sting won by 1 run.
We love our FIREBIRDS no matter what! They are the best group of girls with the greatest hearts out there!!!
