Sunday began much like Saturday ended....with the girls really playing well and defeating yet another team. The 1st team up was the Chase County Explosion. We were playing hard and everyone was had an important role to play. Defense was great and there was no stealing on the Lexi - Jenna combo...
Firebirds came out on top with some terrific plays and ended up on the better end of a 6-1 score. After the umpire tightened up her shoes, Alyvia must have felt empowered with a triple down the line!
Then we went up against one of our rivals....the Southside Slammers. They are a great fundamental team and we knew we had to be 'game on' to make it through this one. We had beat them in the Championship in Adair a few weeks back and we were up for the challenge. There were some errors in the field and some breaks in the pitching...the Slammers made us pay for them with a 9-8 loss. Dropping us into the losers bracket. 
Next was the PC Monarchs....we had already beat them once, so we were feeling confident that we could do it again. The was to get us back into the finals for the tournament....Firebirds took it to them again and headed to the finals after a 9-4 victory. 
Now...to win the tournament, we needed to beat the Southside Slammers twice. No easy task! We were in the very position that they were in at Adair. Our girls were extremely hot, but they didn't stop. We let it all out and came out with a 13-1 win! 
Great job girls, but the job was not done yet! We had to do it again....and our girls were H-O-T and tired after a very long day in the sun. The girls just couldn't hold on for another win....we took home 2nd place with a loss of 8-5. What a heartbreaker!!! 
Everyone played GREAT ball and we love our runner-up Firebird team! Let's get 'em at STATE next weekend........
