The day started out with an 11:00 game against the Twisters. The Firebirds were fired up and ready to play. We jumped out to a strong lead and kept it all the way to a 12-0 win! Shelby and Alyvia both got in park HOMERUNS, and all of the girls batted well. We had some great plays on defense and everyone was covering, Katherine came in and covered Home to prevent a score - way to watch out there! As the temp. got hotter, we changed pitchers and Sam finished the game with Alex catching. After the game everyone grabbed a little to eat in the 90+ heat and the space under the shade tents was at a premium.
Our 2nd game was at 2:30 against the Liberty Venom....even though Firebirds gave the sting in this 17-1 win! The game was pretty much textbook stealing and our girls can slide. Give credit to the Venom catcher, she had to work - in the hottest game of the day! After the game was a long 5 hour wait for the PC Monarchs. Some girls went home for the wait and others went to movies, parties, etc. (Everyone - be back at 8:30 for warm-up)
The Monarchs were a team that had beaten us in the Memorial Day Tournament and the girls wanted to win. They probably wanted to win more because it gave them a later start time for Sunday! The game started at 9:30pm and everyone drug themselves back into the ballfield for this bedtime bash - Jenna even made it back from Minnesota. How would you like to play ball after a trip like that? We started off early with several runs and then maintained with our defense for the final innings of the game. Jenna made a beautiful play to 1st with a throw that was on the money for a much needed 2nd out! Alex took a hard pitch to the knee, but continued to run and run and run and run! She is always fun one to watch. We had a great day and will see everyone one tomorrow to try and win our 2nd tournament in a row!!!
